I think they have another undisclosed threshold too, a bit higher than 1800

key words here are 'meet or exceed'... which I think is what's happened.

I know but I think you have to exceed by a specific amount, i.e. a second threshold. I might just be talking nonsense so don’t pay too much attention to me, but I’m pretty sure they mentioned it at the open day when I was there

I think it's just a case of supply and demand really. If they have space for roughly 300 students, then they'll be interviewing 1200 for example (they do say that). That means after the basic thresholds are met, they'll start ranking people. And that's that... if 2000 people applied to them, then roughly 800 will be rejected.

This is not to say that those 800 are rubbish - I think they just have to cut off somewhere. It also doesn't mean that those who they interview will be perfect specimens of doctors, and that's why post interview, they'll be rejecting another 50-70% of them!

It's tough, not going to lie, it's very tough.. We know of doctors and dentists who are in their 30s and 40s who never had to do this. Sure, get the As and Astars, sure do the work experience...but that was it...! So, no it's really tough.

wait so does the table not actually mean what the cut off is?? is it sort of provisional?

At least thats wt i think…

There's a difference between minimum threshold = 1,800 which is fixed and you would get rejection, no point in applying as your application won't be considered at all. I believe this was published in advance, and they use it to minimise/control the number of applications received.

Ranking cut off is where they drew the line - they are unable to interview more than 1,100 applicants or so, in the home category, as an example. So that ranking cut off point ended up being 2120, which means they had strong home applicants. 2120 is 82nd percentile. That's the final cut off.

The 2120 does NOT relate to starting in September 2026 but starting in September 2025. i.e just gone.
Read the full Sheffield page here.
At the top it says:
"This page relates to 2026 entry for MBChB Medicine (A100) and MBChB Graduate Entry Medicine (A101)"
Then scroll down to "Applying" and under there "Undergraduate". Look at the start date......2026-27/September start.

As the 2120 clearly says 2025-26 it isn't for starting in September 2026

no, it clearly says 'admission cycle 2025-26' and then the home cutpoint as 2120/2700.

2090, cut off seems to have been 2120

Will Sheffield have sent all interviews out this week so if you didn’t hear anything that’s definitely the end of it? Heard nothing either way, but fully expecting a rejection at 2110. When do they send out rejections so you know exactly where you stand rather than being kept in a state of suspense?!

Academic year 2026-2027 = 2026 entry
Admission cycle 2025-2026 = UCAT test taken in 2025, for entry in 2026

2120 can't be for last year's admission cycle as the AR section was dropped only this year. 2120 is out of 2700.

Last year it was the same, they published the ranking cut off very earl; they are transparent with regards to their admission criteria and statistics.
