University of Leicester Mpharm 2026

Hi so l'm doing an Access to higher education in science and my subjects within the course is chemistry, biology and physics. I'm 19 years old currently doing the course and l'll be 20 by the start of 2026 so I’ll be 20 when I join university but I never completed my a levels due to things happening in my life during sixth form but I went back to education hoping to do pharmacy. I also checked the entry requirements and I wanted to add that I have a 5 in GCSE English language and a 4 in GCSE maths. Just wanted to know if it was possible for me
getting in it's my firm choice

Thanks for your message, and it’s great to hear that you’re working towards an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Science and are aiming to study Pharmacy.
For entry to our MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy course, we do accept the Access to HE Diploma in Science, as long as it includes the required number of Level 3 Science credits at Merit/Distinction. You will also need GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 4/C or above, so it’s good that you already meet these.
Entry is competitive, but many students join us through the Access route, so your background will still be considered. Your age will not be an issue; mature and returning students are welcomed, and your journey back into education is viewed positively.
I would recommend:

Continuing to aim for strong results in your Access Diploma (particularly in Chemistry)

Including your personal circumstances and motivation for Pharmacy in your personal statement

Leicester gives the Access requirements for MPharm as :

Access to HE: Pass Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits at Distinction. The following specialisms will be considered on a case-by-case basis with a full list of unit titles and credit values - Pharmacy and Bio-Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences or Medicine. Access to HE course must have at least 15 level 3 credits in Chemistry or Biology and 15 credits in another Maths or science subject in order to be considered.

GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 6/B. Science subjects must be held at grade 6/B.

However, if they feel that your Access course has covered Maths etc in enough detail, they may waive the GCSE requirement - especially if there are reasons why your GCSEs were low and/or you couldn't retake these. I suggest that you email Leicester Admissions with a list of the specific unit titles you are taking within your Access course and ask them - [email protected]
