I'm a sucker for academic validation

I listen to boygenius and big thief type stuff

hiii! i'm nicole and i'm a y10 student too- nice to meet you!

I take the subejcts (all AQA except for dt, and all higher tier)-
-maths
-(prbly) further maths
-english lang and lit
-triple science
-spanish
-geography
-dt (i take papers and boards specialties in edexcel but my school calls the subject graphics)
-AS sociology (it was an option instead of a gcse so i took it)
-short course RE (it's worth half a gcse, taken end of this year)

we take like the complete opposites for options (lol) but i'll help when i can 🙂

my school decided gcse target grades based on y6 SATs and this mini test thing in y7 that tested vocab and maths and stuff (yes i know- ages ago- bit stupid really cos i was pretty dumb in y7 lol) and they don't change until y10 mocks in june so my targets are all 6s and 7s 😔- but I've already hit most of them and im aiming for mainly 8s and 9s 🙏🤞(except for english lang- we don't talk about that lol)

I'll (probably) have a gyg soon too so ill share when i do- nice to meet you! im kinda here cos i want to but ill help when i can

today's revision!! none :frown:
slight exaggeration, I have gone over some of my notes from subjects, but todays plans were slightly foiled (my psych teacher didn't give us back the test and my biology teacher kept the paper after).
homework!! I will do my french and psychology when i get home, and i can probably finish science now.
other news: 1.finally getting my own desk and 2. I got deputy head student (sixth form applications here i come)
yayayaya

I'm doing education, families and relationships and research methods for the course- im currently in the middle of education- it's like learning about how gender, social class and ethnicity affects pupils' education, etc. It's really interesting! If you're enjoying the GCSE, you could consider taking it for A-Level

congrats on the new desk too- its such a life changer- and well done for getting deputy head! great achievement- you should be very proud of yourself!

i think the topics are pretty similar then (we're just finishing our families unit). Sociology is one of my favourite subjects but i'm also not great at formatting my answers to the questions. It's defo on my possible list for a-level tho

i do conflict and tension 1918-1945 germany 1890-1945 for paper 1 and elizabethan england 1500s or something and medicine 1000-present. i have no clue if there’s a name for the papers tbh

Oh i completely get it! if you practice it and know the structure though youll start to learn it and apply it to questions better

Reply 13

hey at least it was only those bits. I claimed that haemoglobin made blood cells rigid in my last bio paper if it helps. I'm sure the rest was good! crossing my fingers for good results!!

Reply 14

Woah i forgot this existed. had the least locked in week. got a terrible english grade. my french teacher had a very short-lived vendetta against me. got a mental health qualification thing. at least i did my homework?

Reply 15

hey, good luck with year 10!!

Reply 16

okay so i got a bunch my papers back. i got an 8 in psychology (and i didn't get my extra time AND i was only one mark off a 9), i got a 6 in sociology (annoyed but the teacher hasn't taught us any of the structures), i got a 5 in english lit (my own fault because i did not revise for mrs birling at all and i spent half the assessment trying to get my computer to work and then ended up writing it out anyway). i am NEVER getting my chem paper back because my science teacher is now off until the 11th. i got a 5 in bio but it's not as bad as it sounds because the highest grade was a 6. idk my maths grade but i got around 90% i think. I got 11/16 on the 16 marker in history (second highest in the class so i think she capped us) and 9/12 on the 12 marker (which i could've done better on but whatever). I got a 5+ on French speaking but that was the highest we could get so i'm happy with that!

yayayay!!
(sorry if this is incoherent, i am sick and off school rn)

Hi nice to meet you! Im Julia and Im a year 12 and I have advice u may find helpful. I got 999999987 in my gcses which was hard but definitely doable so make sure to believe in yourself!

Tips-
Maths - i was a grade 2 in maths when I started but got a 9

first do all the questions on Pmt and learn content ahead of class.

even if you already can get really high grades in Maths I recommend do a few foundation past papers to see how good you are at the basics!

Next, always do ur 5 a day Maths at home

watch the pmt channel on yt for exsplain concepts or first class Maths is good too

Next, move to higher papers

in year 11 after January do a past paper a week. don't worry about using up past apprts, you can always do more from diffrnet exam boards but you can also do the same 1 s maltible times!

next, search up on YouTube and the Internet for the hardest questions of your board

consistent practice is key, practice even for just half an hour a day it adds up!

scicne-
I got a 7 in chem / i mark of an 8 . 8 in physics, a 9 in biology so I didn't do as well. Heres my
mistakes
I did have to do science outside of school becuase my school only taught be combined but where was more I could have done!
I didn't do any pmt questions. I should have grinned them just like with Maths.
I should have used medley ai. I used that for a level and its a live safer. I do understand not everybody can afford that though!
I wasted time writing notes. Only write notes for important things!
what i did right - i did every past paper

I watched free science lessons

I blurted information onto a whiteboard

English
didn't do much as im naturally good at this but I
made flash cards in class!
I used youtube to catch up on any analsis
and blurt qoutes you may need to remember
I practice my vocabulary and tried to read a lot and learn a few new words a week to make my essays sound more sophisticated

hisotry
This was a bit intense but I made flash cards for everything on the person book.
good thing about hisotry is if you memories spesific dates of things that impresses examiners
I watched youtube videos such as the gcse hisotry tutor who taught me how to strucutre my essays
I made flash cards in class

I didn't do this for the humanities but you can use mark me ai and get things marked by your teaches id you struggle with the essay writing
part

Phycology bacialy everything I said for hisotry but also memorise your cace studies well

I can't give advice for anything else as I didn't take those subjects but I hope this helps!
