Not sure what to study? Here’s why anything connected to food would be a good choice

Hope this doesn't make you too hungry - just some food for thought for career options.

:eating:
1 Everyone has to eat to stay alive, so the food industry isn’t going anywhere.

2 The UK Food and Drink industry is the biggest manufacturing sector worth £26 billion and employing more than 4 million people.

3 - The sector is crying out for fresh talent, which means great career prospects. According to business advisory firm BDO, 75% of food and drink businesses are facing recruitment challenges, saying they lack skilled people in key roles, across production, marketing, management and digital transformation.

4 Food is so much bigger than catering. All too often, if you say you like cooking or baking, you’ll be directed towards becoming a chef. But if you think about it, the ingredients must come from somewhere and we eat most of our meals at home rather than in restaurants!

5 Careers span the entire food chain. From preparing the land, to growing crops or raising livestock, to supply chains, to nutrition, to new product development (could you launch the next big thing?), to sourcing products for retailers, to sales and marketing.

You can have confidence in Harper Adams University supporting your career in food because we’ve been doing so for almost 125 years, with degrees for every stage of the food chain, including newer additions such as data science and automation. We even run short courses in brewing and distilling and have dedicated product development kitchens and sensory evaluation facilities (which also means regular product tasting!)

And we're doing some very cool and award-winning work to be more sustainable with food on campus.
