low predicted grades applying for medicine

I’m in year 13 and have just applied for foundation medicine at leicester, nottingham, keele and southampton.

I got 777776553 at GCSE, 1910 B3 UCAT, and am predicted BCC for my a levels.

I already have an offer to study biomedical sciences at derby but i’m not sure if i want to go there.

realistically, do i have a chance of getting into med this year or should i plan on taking a gap year?

If the universities you applied to have a minimum requirement of let’s say BBB, they would reject your application.

The best thing is to email them and see what they say some can be lenient, however because medicine is competitive and FY with med is even more, it’s not as likely.

If you are set on med, I would 100% take the gap year (I’m on one myself). Take y13 to improve your grades and you won’t have to worry about anything else. Then apply next year and you will only have to pass interviews to get your offers.

Hi @DanniJackson07,

I'm sorry I can't give advice on this, but I thought I'd jump in to say that it might be worth getting in touch with the university admissions teams to have a chat, but also speaking to your school careers advisor(s) and some trusted teachers to get their opinions on your options for university in September or a gap year.

Wishing you the best of luck in your journey to medicine!
