DDD to A* A* A* ?? 😭💀

I just finished my mocks two weeks ago and we got our results today. I got DDD 😭 I tried to cram a whole 1 and a half years worth of revision into a 2 weeks. I’ve been so burnt out after my ucat and my whole 6 weeks of summer revising for my ucat just to flop it. I’m predicted A* A* A bc I did rlly well in year 12. Anyway I’ve already submitted my ucas application for medicine so I know the mocks won’t affect my predicteds grades. But all my teachers and friends think I’m stupid now, I know I can get A*s if I put in the effort. I know I gotta lock in now if I want those grades. I locked in for year 12, I’m sure I can lock in again if I seriously try. Does anyone have any advice on how to get from DDD to A* A* A / A* in the time I have left 😭? I have a second set of mocks in March so I will treat those like the real thing.

Why do u think u got DDD? Lack of effort or not knowing how to learn? More importantly, let me know how u feel tmrw.

I wish i can help you. I too was lazy back in sixth form. You need to get that moment where you break down (not health wise obvsly i mean emotionally) to truly change your ways. Maybe youll cram and do decent at A level and get into a top uni. But somewhere along ur academic journey ull reach a wall where u cant cram all of the content and do well. Youll crash and burn because u never learnt how to learn u just relied on ur cramming skills. I dont want that path for you. The reason why I asked u to tell me how u r tmrw is cause i wanted to see whether u had the “ive had it” moment or if ur just blue for a while

U need to get close enough to the flame to feel its heat but not get burnt.

I hope u r right. Do u have a local library close by? For me I cant study at home cause its too easy to goof off. I need separation from my workplace and where I relax.

Hey,
Not sure why but this thread popped in- but maybe its meant to be.
I myself am someone who's gone through the 'WTF did I choose chem alevel' moments MANY time. It is normal to feel that way. And trust, no-one is thinking you are dumb. You are literally going very hard alevels.
Remember; the switch from AS to Alevel is different. The questions are different- it is no longer learn it and memorise this like it was in GCSEs and AS. You have to think about the WHY and link to other topics that may be related. Im sure you have heard this but 'little and often'

And regarding the UKAT—this year apparently ALOT of students got significantly lower than what they expected- its a 'thing' but its over- forget about and focus on your revision. But also, relax, otherwise the burnout is horrible, and itll only get worse in medschool.

I would highly recommend starting revision as early as possible (even if it’s not anything big) just to start getting in the rhythm and setting yourself little deadlines as that’s what worked for me as a student who was in a similar position to you. For example, say “If I don’t finish making flashcards / doing these questions / etc. for this topic by next week Monday 12:00 then I’m going to fail my A-Levels”. Of course, you don’t have to be so mean to yourself 😂 but I found that if you keep reminding yourself that the revision you do now is going to help you not fail your actual exams that’s far more motivating.

It’s completely understandable to feel burnt out and demotivated after doing so many exams and not getting the results you wanted, but just think “Can I change what already happened? No. Can I change the future outcome? Yes ”.

I would also recommend asking your teachers what and how you should be revising right now - I did that and it made starting revision so much easier.

Would absolutely agree. Or just find a room in your home which is your designated study room and that’s all you do there. That way every time you go to the library or designated room you’ll immediately know that it’s time to lock in, which is useful for staying motivated for when you do your proper revision closer to exams.

Trust me u can lock in I got DEU on my last mocks and got BCC in the real thing. DONT LEAVE IT LAST MINUTE. Start ASAP and dedicate your life to it for the next few months (obviously don’t burn yourself out but). it’s possible trust me if you put in the work you will see the results.

well done for ur grades. But I’m trying to get A* A* A* from DDD 😭 so the max I can get is BBB?😭

No definitely not because I locked in very late and didn’t even revise as much as I should’ve if I put in 100% by like November/December I could’ve gotten much better grades

You can definitely do it - you’ve got around 5/6 months left and If you use that time wisely that’s plenty
