Rejected by Cambridge for maths.

I thought everyone gets an invite to an interview for maths. I got rejected. I am not mad just disappointed.

No, not everyone receives an interview unfortunately. Where did you hear this information? I am very sorry you were unable to get one, but maybe it’s for the best! You will be okay as everything always is. Can I ask, what were your stats and grades?

It truly is just misfortune. Your grades are perfect so it must have been your personal statement. Did you lack extracurriculars and work experience? That’s the only reason I can think of as to why you didn’t secure an interview.

Idk. Honestly it sucks. It may be ums. I achieved an A* in a level math as my school is one of those that do math then further math in separate years. But my uns for one of the modules was a bit low. I honestly don’t know.

Also its math, i never heard they consider things as work experience and stuff.

Yes but it is Cambridge, it’s ranked as the top university in the UK for mathematics. Inevitably, they are going to reach for the most proactive, determined individuals ( I’m not claiming that you aren’t ) and therefore those who have work experience and multiple extracurriculars may be prioritised as they also have the perfect grades.

Um this is not the degree I study or not about very well. “STEP flexible offer scheme
Depending on individual circumstances, some Colleges may make an A level applicant an offer which will be met if they achieve either A*A*A with at least grade 1 in STEP papers 2 and 3, or A*A*A* with at least grade 1 in either STEP paper 2 or 3 (both papers to be taken).” It says STEP is needed in the entry requirements even in the STEP flexible offer scheme (quoted above).

Cambridge is different. It gives you a step offer along with your a level offers, so you sit the STEP after a levels

Ooohh, so interview selection is only based on predicted A level grades?

Unfortunately they don't interview everyone.
