Urgent Student Finance Advice

I have a question regarding student finance as I already have an application which is still up for September 2025 intake but due to personal reasons I missed the registration date and would like to switch to a january 2026 intake.

Unfortunately Nottingham Trent University does not have January intakes but I cant skip another year of studies, I have seen that Bournemouth University offer January Intake for Computer Science and was wondering if I could apply with funding from student finance as I have emailed Bournemouth uni and they told me student finance is unable to fund January courses.

As I have a current application for 25/26 I assume sending a co1 form would be enough for srudent finance to fund the January intake?

Hi there,

Can you confirm if you have studies before on any course? What is the full course name and length at Bournemouth and we can check this for you?

Thanks,
Claire

The course is Bsc (Hons) Computer Science UCAS Code: I100 Full-time and has an option to start in september and january 2026 and i am interested in the January intake.

https://www.bournemouth.ac.uk/study/courses/bsc-hons-computer-science

Semester one will be completed from January to May

The second semester of your first year or level of study will be a condensed one and undertaken across June and July

In your second year (level 5) and third year (level 6), your teaching will take place in line with our usual academic year.

Checking the system there is 2 courses with this code, a 3 year one and 4 year one, and both are for September intakes. This means we wouldn't fund the January intake as its not on database. I would suggest speaking to the university to see if they know of alternative funding options.

Thanks,
Claire

Thank you, if I was to self fund my year at university would I lose a gift year of student finance?

Any previous study whether self funded or not is taken into account when working out eligibility for finance.

Thanks,
Claire
