deferrals

Do I have to write about deferring in my personal statement? I want to apply for deferred entry at Glasgow but they only accept deferrals after ur offer if you have an Unconditional offer, which I don't think I can get as a Year 13. I have already gotten my personal statement finished so it would be annoying to rewrite with gap year stuff. Do you think they'd be ok to give me a deferred offer if I apply now for 2027 without writing about me? I meet the entry requirements fully.

You don’t need to write about deferring in your personal statement.
Universities usually treat deferral requests separately from your application, they mostly care that you meet the entry requirements and have a strong personal statement.
In your case, since Glasgow only allows deferrals after you’ve received an unconditional offer, there’s no need to mention a gap year now. You can submit your personal statement as it is for 2026 entry, and if you get an offer, you can then request a deferral if you meet their criteria at that time.

Basically, don’t worry about deferral at this stage, it won’t disadvantage your application.

Hi @ariellelentin

Similar to what the other commentor has stated, you do not need to mention this in your personal statement. Keep your personal statement on topic.

When it comes to deferral, according to UCAS you need to contact the universities before you apply, this way you are aware if they will accept a deferral.

For the most up-to-date information on deferrals, please read this UCAS article on deferred entry for 2026.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
