No but i can give you a summary from my website
----------------------------------------------------------------
Urban redevelopment
Location: London, 1981 (LDDC formed)
Information
uring the 19th century London was the biggest port in the world. in the 1950s the area went into decline. The area has now been redeveloped and contains some of London's newest buildings like the Canary Wharf Tower.
Reason:
Containerisation and more advanced crane technology meant less workers were needed
Many goods stated to be delivered by road
By 1981 large ships were unable to reach the ports
Problems:
The docks were abandoned
Few jobs
Houses in need of repair
Over half of the land derelict
In 1981 the London Docklands Development Commission (LDDC) was formed
Solutions (what was done):
728 hectors of derelict land were reclaimed
10,000 trees replanted
Docklands light railway completed, which carrys 320,000 people per week
Employment increased from 27,000 to 69,000
19,000 houses built and 8,000 refurbished
£100 million spent on health, education and training
17 conservation areas created
130 hectors of open space
135km of roads built
Leisure facilities built, collages, sports centres, marina
Developers: Newham council, LDDC, National government, property developers and conservation groups
Winners
Business on low rent land
Highly skilled workers
Losers
Local residents
Unskilled workers
Elderly people
In 1996 Newham council tried to rectify these problems by providing low cost housing.
