Aerospace Engineering supercurricular activities

I'm almost 16 and i've already read a couple of books and done an engineering summer school in Oxford, but i want to do more to be able to get myself in a very good position when applying for university. I'm looking at Unis like Southampton. What sort of supercurriculars can i do?
Any recommendations would be great, thanks

Hey there,

Thank you for your messageit’s fantastic that you’re already thinking ahead about your university application, and it’s great to hear you’ve already read engineering books and attended a summer school in Oxford. That already puts you in a strong position especially at your age.

To build even further, there are lots of supercurricular activities that can help you develop your interest in engineering and show your passion to universities like Southampton. Some useful options include taking online courses in aerospace, mechanical engineering, physics or programming. Join any engineering related club if your school has one.

You don’t need to worry too much. Since you are still very young. The most important thing is to choose activities you genuinely enjoy, because that will come across naturally in your personal statement later on. You’re already doing really well for your age, so anything extra you choose to do now will only strengthen your application further.

If you’d like to ask me more questions about experience in university. Feel free to do so.

Good luck with your application.

Best wishes
Junfan

Apply for work experience with F1 teams (Alpine, Mercedes, Williams, and Aston Martin offer one-week work experiences) or with aerospace companies such as Lockheed Martin and MBDA. Check the early careers links on their websites.

There are MOOCs you can do online for completely free. I did introduction to aeronautical engineering by TuDelft which helped out a lot in my application. You can normally find them on edx or on the universities’ own websites. Universities like Harvard and EPFL offer courses as well.
