UNI financial support for individuals that haven't been in the UK for 5 years

Is there any financial support for individuals that haven't been in the UK for 5 years? 3 people I know are going to apply for uni next year, but will have to apply as international students as they haven't secured their residency here - only been here for 4 years. They're struggling to understand how they'd pay for university costs (tuition costs and living costs) - does anyone have any information on this! I'm sure someone would have been in the same situation, so any advice will help! Thank you

Hi @IdkkMayy

I would get them to check with the specific universities as they may have some form of funding available, At Manchester Met we have international scholarships available, but these are uni-specific so worth checking with where they're applying to. We also have a Student Financial Support team available to advise prospective students about funding opportunities, so they may have something similar.

Hope this helps,
Mel 😊

Aside from international scholarships, which are competitive and unlikely to cover everything - there's not much I am afraid.

The simplest route might be to defer for a year until they obtain indefinite leave to remain.
