The Student Room Group

2nd year housing

I'm currently in first year at Cardiff Uni, and I am quite concerned that I won't find anyone to live with next year. A group of friends that I thought was a possibility to live with have signed for a lease already and I feel a bit scared that I don't have anyone else. It feels like everyone already has housing sorted, or is currently looking at houses and I feel so behind. I really don't want to have to live in accommodation again and a house would be perfect, I just don't know who I could live with. its a shame because id really love to start the process of looking for a house and I dont want to start having to ask acquaintances from my course what their plans are

Hey,

I'm sorry you've been experiencing difficulties in finding people to live with; whilst finding housing for next year is a common problem for many first years, it certainly doesn't make it any easier to navigate.

The important thing to remember is that you're definitely not the only one feeling like this. Although it can be awkward to ask other people on your course what their plans are for next year, it's likely that by doing so you'll find one or two people in the same position as you. If you don't feel comfortable approaching people directly, consider putting a message into any course group chats you're a part of or reaching out to the accommodation team at your university for further guidance.

Remember you don't necessarily have to live with people on the same course as you as well - are you a member of any societies or clubs? Do you have any friends/acquaintances outside of your course in a similar situation?

Hope this helps and best of luck with your housing search,
Eve (Kingston Rep).
