Need help with clarifying

Hi, I wanted to ask if I’m applying to get into biomedical sciences for 2/4 or 3/5 unis and the rest are health and medical sciences and clinical sciences. When talking about my chosen course should I say biomedical sciences or medical sciences so it tailors to everything.

Hi @c3rul3n

I would advise you contact your chosen unis to clarify if the course you are interested in would allow a revised personal statement. We can consider revised statements for some of our courses, but not all. Once you have confirmed this you will be able to decide how to focus your personal statement and which courses you can send in revised statements to the admissions team(s), having submitted your UCAS application.

Hope this helps,
Mel 😊

Hiya lovely

If you’re applying for a mix of Biomedical Sciences, Medical Sciences/Health & Medical Sciences, and Clinical Sciences, the safest approach in your personal statement is to keep your wording broad but relevant to all the courses.

Instead of committing to one exact course title, you can talk about your interest in the underlying themes that all these degrees share, things like human biology, disease mechanisms, diagnostics, physiology, pathology, and research. That way your statement naturally fits biomed, med sci, and clinical sci without sounding like you’ve written it for the wrong course.

You can mention biomedical/medical sciences by name, but do it in a way that shows you understand the overlap.

Admissions tutors won’t expect you to tailor to each exact title they just want to see genuine interest in the subject area.

Since the disciplines overlap heavily, you can absolutely show your general knowledge and passion across both biomedical and medical sciences. For example, talk about things like lab experience, reading/research you’ve done, specific topics that fascinate you, and any relevant work experience.

As long as your motivation is clearly within the biosciences / human health science sphere, it will work for all your choices.

Hey there, when you’re writing a personal statement that will be read by different courses with slightly different titles, it’s usually safest to focus on the shared core of the subject rather than locking yourself into one specific name. For example, instead of saying only biomedical sciences or only medical sciences, you can talk about your interest in human biology, disease, diagnostics, lab work, and the scientific principles that sit beneath all these courses. That way, your statement still feels authentic and motivated, but it remains relevant to each course you’re applying for.

If you do want to reference a course title, many students choose to mention biomedical sciences because it naturally covers a broad scientific foundation. Just make sure the focus is on the skills and passions that link all the degrees you’ve chosen. That keeps your statement strong, coherent, and suitable for each application.
