Hi all, just popping on here as a 6th year vet to fill you all in on the accreditation update!

We’ve had news today that our conditional accreditation status has been extended by another year. This still means that we’ve got accreditation, it’s just that they want to revisit in another year because there’s still some standards that need more evidence to be fully met. This is mostly in relation to contracts with offsite partners and some staff needing to log their training etc. There has however been significant progress since the last visit with a significant number of commendations for student support, teaching and welfare (and if any of you heard about the slating about student complaints on ems, the new reporting system actually got commended).

The overall progress is very good and whilst ideally we would have liked to have regained full accreditation, it’s not a negative outcome and if you compare the two reports it’s major progress. Admittedly, the rcvs did only give the vet school 10 months to sort things out and some of the recommendations need more than a year to fully implement (especially in regards to admission cycles) so it wasn’t completely unexpected.

If any of you have any questions about it all then fire away- I think it’s important that you hear how things are from actual Cambridge students rather than news articles that skew things out of context!

Hi! I applied to vet med this year at Cambridge. Do you think they will still enrol new students this year?
They will do- admissions are open and interviews are happening!

Hi Vetgirl07, I just wanted to say thank you for your post. It's very helpful. My daughter's just had an interview invitation this morning and we were reading the report on the website last night. It's a shame they haven't given full accreditation but it does sound like a lot of progress has been made. It's just worrying if my daughter is fortunate to be offered a place and the accreditation is not forthcoming. A bit of a gamble. Thanks again.

Best of luck to your daughter for her interview!

Yeah it’s frustrating as on paper it gives the impression that there’s been little progress made when actually significant work has been done! I would say that they’re in a good position to regain full accreditation at the revisit next October and there’s a clearer timeline now on how the remaining recommendations will be met. We are still technically accredited so we’ll be graduating fine, it’s just a tedious process to get there!

I received an interview last week for Clare College which surprised me as I didn’t do well in ESAT.

I found it really difficult but I expected that. I don’t feel like I answered the questions that well as they kept prompting me but it was in subjects I had no idea about like cows! Just got to wait but I’ve received an offer from another Uni so at least I have an option

Honestly I would be less worried about the accredidation and more worried that the biosci council seem to want to get rid of the vet school anyway and use it for something that might actually be profitable. Has there been any updates on that front?
