Are my choices too aspirational?

I want to study Law at university.

My predicted grades are strong, however my main worry is the one BTEC I do.

My GCSE results were:
998666663 (9s were in History and English Lit, 8 in English Language, 3 in Media, 6s in everything else)

My subjects at Sixth Form are History, English Lit and BTEC Business.

My predicted grades are: A* Distinction* A
I’m applying to Durham, Newcastle, Uni of Leeds, Uni of Sheffield and Uni of Manchester.

I am most likely eligible for contextual offers.

Hi, I do politics, philosophy and law at Warwick. Your grades are good and if they meet the requirements it should be fine. I didn’t do BTECs so I’m not sure what unis think about that but it should be in their entry requirements. Unis don’t really care THAT much about GCSEs but they’re important
However, unis like Durham also want the LNAT exam so I would take that into consideration when applying.
It’s always good to have an insurance uni with lower grade requirements because you never know what will happen on results day.
People say that law is competitive, which it is for the Russell group unis, but from my experience with UCAS and applications, law isn’t too competitive.
You could also consider solicitor apprenticeships if that is what you’re open to.

Thanks for the reply.

All the universities Ive applied to do take BTECs, but I hear some people say BTECs are looked down upon (even though my head of sixth form said they’re not, unless you apply to Cambridge or Oxford).

As for the LNAT, I already have that booked for Durham. My insurance option is kinda Newcastle since I’ve been accepted for PARTNERS program which should reduce my offer (if I get one) to BBB, or DistinctionBB. I would have to firm it but I until June or July to make that decision.

I was thinking about applying to Warwick but decided otherwise. What is it like studying Law at University?
Hi there,

Your grades are excellent which will definitely put you at an advantage when applying to study law.

It may depend on the university you apply to as to whether they accept BTEC courses as well as a-levels, so it is definitely worth getting in touch with admissions before you apply if it isn’t clear on their website.

I will link the Sheffield Undergraduate Law page Here so you can have a look. You should be able to find the entry requirements, and details about the access Sheffield programme as well.

I will also link the admissions page Here, so you can get in touch with our team if you have any specific questions!

You can chat to one of our law students Here who can tell you a bit more about what studying law is like in general - just type ‘Law’ in the search bar and a law ambassador should come up!
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best of luck with your applications,
Phillippa - UoS Politics and languages undergraduate student
