Is my income considered for student finance?

Dear Student Finance Team,

Hope your week is going well.

I am writing to query if my full time income will be considered when accessing my application for the maintenance loan.

My situation is the following - I work full time Mon to Fri, have a second job that I do occasionally for events (once a month) on Friday evening and have now applied to study full time intensive weekend course which is eligible for the maintenance loan. I am above the age of 25 and I am independent student - live alone without a partner.

I applied a bit late so my application is not processed yet, hence why I am asking here. My query is will my income be considered when accessing my maintenance loan eligibility and will the loan amount be reduced due to me earning an income or is the income from work not taken into account when accessing how much I will receive, meaning that I will be eligible for the maximum maintenance loan? I am asking this question because I read somewhere that income from work is not taken into consideration and only income from assets affects the final amount of the loan, but best to double check this with you

The course I have a applied for is CERTHE Business Management, November start, at London Metropolitan University.

Thank you in advance for your help and have a great weekend.

Kind regards,
Jehny

Hi Jehny,

Can you confirm nationality? Is your employer releasing you to attend your course?

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Claire,

Sure, worries. My nationality is Polish but have permanent residence in the UK and yes, my employer is releasing me to attend the course.

Many thanks,
Jehny

Thank you. Is your employer paying for you to attend the course? If not, we wouldn't require any evidence nor do we take your income into account when assessing your entitlement. Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason, thank you so much for your response. My employer is not paying for the course, I will be taking a tuition fee loan for that.

Many thanks,
Jehny

Hi Jehny. In this case we wouldn't take your income into account. Thanks, Leah.
