ESAT Scores

I’m a Year 13 student applying for Imperial Mechanical Engineering and Cambridge General Engineering. I didn’t do as well as I hoped on the ESAT (around 3-4 average). Is there any chance of still getting an interview or offer this year? For context, I have strong predicted grades and excellent GCSEs.

Also wondering if taking a gap year to reapply is worthwhile, or if it’s better to accept offers from other Russell Group universities I already have, like Southampton.

A 3–4 ESAT average isn’t great for Imperial/Cambridge, but it’s not an instant rejection. Cambridge often interviews quite widely, and strong predicted grades/GCSEs help. Imperial is tougher since they rely more on ESAT, but it’s still possible.
A gap year is only worth it if you’re confident you could raise your ESAT a lot and really want those two unis specifically. Otherwise, taking a solid offer like Southampton is a perfectly good path.

Same here bro, the actual thing felt so different to the practices I did beforehand 🥲. I was so cooked that I was asking chatGPT for console. But it said there is still like 20-30% chance due to strong predicted grades, hope that helps you a bit as well. Anyway, best of luck to both of us! 🤞
