A level english essay help

I want to get an A* in english lit and lang combined edexcel. I would like tips for structure and how to gain top marks. Any help from anyone whose getting or has got A*s would be helpful in any type of english essay.

I'm the type of person who never plans abd writes as much as I can. Can I get help to write less(1000 words in 1hr 30) and still gwt high marks. I normally write like 1300 words for the 30 marker comparsion.

For reference I got two 8s in GCSE, im predicted an A* but this year I'm stuck on Bs. This is because of my lack of topic sentences and not referencing the question. I

Hey I got an A* this year!

Firstly its so impressive that you're planning ahead- better than me lol!

Main tips:

Remember a few examples from band 4+5 criteria that can be applied to most things (this also goes for theories/ case studies) - easy cheat code and gets you the most marks- English is one of the hardest exam subjects to get high grades because mark boundaries are insane- every mark matters!

Practice not going off on a tangent- I used to do this, just yap and yap- it loses you points on coherence- make a plan- I know its hard:

intro:

p1- PEEL
p2 -PEEL
p3-PEEL

conclusion

within this spend ur first 10-15 mins analysing the text and highlighting language levels, bands, evidence and points- include this in your plans!- it then becomes less of writing as essay and more like joining the dots- saves so much time!!

Take those toilet and water breaks- honestly you need to clear your mind to stay focused- you can't to that if your hungry thirsty or need the loo

leading me onto breakfast- high protein and fibre- keeps you full and mind ready- bonus points for fish- brain food

any other specific questions please lmk!!

Thank you so much. Is PEEL really all you need. I've never really used it before. But I guess it's just a way to keep the essay clear.

Thank you, also do you recomment stocking to one like theory (Marxism) per essay or should I intergrate more or will that be too messy. Btw thats what my teacher was saying aswell that an examiner would'nt know my question based on my essay.

I would definitely aim for 3, not too many but definitely more than one

structure: well It could be this as x and x points align with x theory, however y theory states this and x and x align with that

structure: x relates to x theory which also further reinforces y theory

does that make sense?
