Heyyy ✨️

I'm Luna and I'm currently in Year 11 and next week my November PPE's begin, and honestly I am super nervous, but I do have hope!!

Year 10 Mock Results
English Literature (8)
English Language (9)
Spanish (7)
History (6)
Triple Biology (6)
Triple Physics F (5)
Triple Chemistry (4)
Maths (4)
Media Studies (5)

As you can see from my results, mathematics are not my strong suit and I really struggle with it, which is what's making me extremely nervous!!

I want to do Psychology maybe at A-Level, but I'm really worried because apparently it's quite Maths heavy?? I will update on here how my mocks go and how my GCSE Year is, but I was wondering if anyone has any reassurance for me as I'm really nervous for this Year

Hi Luna! First of all, your Year 10 results are really strong, so you clearly have a solid base going into your PPEs. It’s completely normal to feel nervous, but you sound motivated and aware of what you need to work on, which already puts you ahead.
About Psychology at A level: it does include some maths, but it’s mostly statistics and applying formulas, not complicated GCSE-Higher maths. Lots of people take it without being maths-confident and still do really well. If you can handle around ten percent maths content, you’ll be fine.
Keep practising little bits of maths regularly, focus on methods, and don’t stress too much about PPEs they’re there to help you see what to improve, not to judge you. You’ve got this!

Thank you very much!! I'm definitely feeling a bit better now, and I was worried about Psychology but I'm hoping on definitely doing it at Sixth Form. Genuinely the nicest message ever!!

Hi Luna,

Well done on your Year 10 mock grades! I completely understand feeling nervous about A-level Psychology, especially when you’ve heard it involves some Maths. As mentioned above, the good news is that it’s mainly statistics for analysing data and understanding experiments. You won’t need advanced Maths, just things like averages, percentages, simple probability and interpreting graphs.

Many students who aren’t confident in Maths do really well, especially if you take time to practice and ask for help when needed. I’d recommend using resources like Corbett Maths, MathsGenie, PhysicsandMathsTutor and Cognito to watch videos and practice topic by topic questions while revising for your GCSEs.

Good luck with your studies

hi luna! I saw your post about your mocks timetable, once again saying good luck!
I’m also year 11, and considering psychology! I was talking to one of the psychology teachers at my school about it, and apparently it is quite scientific, although she said something about not needing much maths (something about statistics?). for maths I would recommend using past papers and watching videos, and also don’t be afraid to ask teachers for help!
congrats on your amazing english grades, which exam board are you and which texts do you study?

Heyy!! Thank you for wishing me luck!! Really appreciate it!!

I'm glad that there isn't too much Maths in it, I think Statistics should be okay hopefully, I reckon it would be really cool to do. At my School we use Sparx Maths so I've been doing like exam questions on there so hopefully it pays off

Thank you!!! In my School we study a few different texts but at GCSE it's A Christmas Carol and Macbeth, and next April my Mocks will be on Animal Farm. We also cover 15 different Poems from our Anthology on War, Romance and things like that. The Poetry is definitely my favourite part!!!

our school uses sparx too! it’s a bit of a pain sometimes but worth it lol. we aren’t using at the moment because we do past papers instead.
I also really like poetry, it’s probably my favourite english lit topic (we do jekyll and hyde, romeo and juliet and an inspector calls, and power and conflict for poetry). my favourite poem that we’ve studied is exposure by wilfred owen (my least favourite is the prelude)

Sparx is so much of a pain because I'm getting so much of it!! But we are doing past papers too so it should be worth it in the grand scheme of things.

I did Jekyll + Hyde and an Inspector Calls in Year 9!! And Romeo and Juliet in Year 8, it was really fun to do actually. And we're doing Power and Conflict in Poetry that's what I meant to say, my favourite poem is War Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy and my least favourite I genuinely don't know, but probably Tissue because it's a bit of an anomaly 😅

we haven’t done tissue yet (we’re quite behind) but I have heard that it doesn’t fit at all. war photographer is definitely up there on my list of favourites, I haven’t looked at in a while tho (I just learnt exposure as it can be compared to most poems, and london, ozymandias and remains as they are all quite short)
