Theology 2026 offers

Hi I’ve recently received offers for Theology at Bristol and Edinburgh and Exeter for Theology, Religion and Ethics. I’m waiting to hear back from Durham and Oxford for Theology but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with those three unis for theology?

my top choices would definitely be Durham or Oxford but i’m also trying to decide where I would firm if i don’t get offers at those two and what i should put as my insurance either way.

any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations to your offers.

I am not familiar with Theology. But for Theology I would prefer an uni with some sort of history/tradition, silly me.

Hi anonymous,

Congratulations on the offers, you should be proud of your success! I am a current student at Exeter so I can give you a perspective on life here.

The Theology, Religion and Ethics course is well-structured and flexible, letting you explore areas like ethics, philosophy, and religious history. Classes are small enough that you get to know lecturers and seminar groups, which makes it easier to engage and ask questions.

Campus life is really student-friendly - everything’s close together, from libraries and cafes to societies and green spaces. There are loads of societies for all kinds of interests, including faith, debating, and philosophy, so it’s easy to meet like-minded people. Social life is lively but manageable, with a few main clubs, bars, and plenty of society events.

Overall, Exeter is a great place to enjoy both your studies and your social life - it’s easy to feel at home.

If you have more specific questions about the course itself here at Exeter you can talk to a current student doing that degree if you follow this link.

Hope this helps 🙂

hellooo,
im in the same predicimant, ive applied for:

Bristol

Edinburgh

Durham

Exeter

Cardiff

I have recieved offers for Bristol (T and R), Exeter (T and R), Edinburgh (Theology), and just waiting on Durham and Cardiff now. However, I know for a fact that Durham will take a long time. I personally think it's because the theology department is very highly rated globally and wants to equally review all applicants nearer the end deadline, rather than sending out offers early.
From what I’ve heard, all three of the unis you’ve got offers from have really solid reputations for theology, but they each have slightly different vibes. Bristol seems to be more interdisciplinary and quite modern in its approach, Edinburgh has a big name academically and a very established theology faculty, and Exeter seems really student-focused with lots of flexibility in the course.
I think for me, if I don’t get an offer from Durham, I’d probably firm either Edinburgh or Bristol depending on where I feel I’d fit in best when I visit. For insurance, I’m leaning towards Exeter because the offer is usually a bit more achievable and the course looks great.
Honestly though, I’m praying for Durham it’s just so highly rated and globally respected for theology and religion, and it feels like the perfect fit for what I want academically. But trying not to get my hopes too high while we wait!
Let me know what you end up deciding it’s nice to know someone else is going through the same thing and doing the same course as me! Ive been searching for someone in my position lol

Hey! Literally insane but we have applied to the exact same unis for the same courses and Bristol, Edinburgh and Exeter have sent me offers too! Still waiting on Durham, and obviously yet to hear from Oxford as to wether I have an interview BUT loved the course the offer at Edinburgh! I think if I don’t receive any more offers I am going to firm Edinburgh because the school of divinity is amazing there (the buildings are phenomenal too!). I will update you when I hear back from either- what college did you apply for Oxford?

hi!! i’ve said this on another post a little earlier today but i have also applied to durham bristol and edinburgh for theology! just waiting for edinburgh to respond now haha
i got a response within good timing from durham, but i think that was only because i got a contextual offer, and i heard their responses are usually slow - but i also think that there will be a lot more applications to durham for theology this year after they got ranked as number 1!!
best of luck 🙏 hopefully we can see each other in durham

Hey did you hear from Oxford? I got an offer there at Oriel so I’ll be firming there but am still on the fence between Edinburgh or Durham as an insurance!
