So my mocks are starting tomorrow, and so far I have done next to no revision. Partly because I have absolutely no motivation, but also because I despise the examination system. I feel exams are lacking in purpose and are a complete joke. I know I would revise if I actually liked the academic world, but I don’t. I feel I have no choices, as much as they make it out that I “do”. I do want to go to university, though, so I really need to start revising as this year is much harder than last. I hate exams so much that I start to think life could never actually be free or enjoyable. I find learning fine, but it depends on what I’m learning. I’m stressed because I feel like I’ll be like this forever, sacrificing any chance I might have had to get into university, or even into a decent job. I just don’t see the point in pursuing a life that I didn’t ask to live. I don’t see the point in working for something I just don’t believe in.

Hey, lots of people feel the same about exams they’re stressful and can feel pointless, so you’re not alone. But the fact you want to go to uni shows you do care about your future, even if the system frustrates you.
Mocks aren’t the end of the world; they’re just practice. Even if you haven’t revised much, start small pick one topic and do 20–30 minutes. Once you get going, the stress usually eases a bit.
And if you’re feeling really low or like life has no point, please talk to someone you trust (teacher, family member, counsellor). You don’t have to handle that by yourself. You’re not going to feel like this forever it’s just the stress talking, and you can work through it step by step.

Oh my god, you are exactly as I was last year around this time!! I was so stressed about mocks and what that would mean for exams, and also saw no sense in the exam system, but trust me - you’re gonna be okay.

It’s definitely not too late to cram in some revision as best you can! If you have any materials already made (e.g. collected quotes for english?) keep going over those as best you can, as whatever you have will be so helpful. But I’d also urge you to work towards trying to get all your revision resources made before you get to study leave because I left some of it really late and was rushing like crazy to finish making flashcards. Just make a couple each weekend when you’re doing your homework or something - it’ll get easier the more you fit it into a routine.

For motivation - i get it. I have ADHD and really struggled to find ways to stay on task when working and revising because it felt like so much to do. I’d recommend flashcards for most (maybe even all) subjects since they’re quick to work through and consistent, and I found the app/website StudySmarter literally CHANGED the game for me when making flashcards. You’ve got this 🫶

Also please remember it seems like such a bigger deal at mocks because the teachers hype it up like crazy, I was literally crying from stress daily at this time. The exam season is so much more chill once you have made/got the resources you need, so please don’t take the results from your mocks too hard. Keep going and stay strong because (as much as I got SO tired of everyone telling me this) it actually does all figure itself out over time. Wishing you luck.

thank you, unfortunately for maths I haven’t revised over an hour so they won’t be great results but it’s good to know other people are the same!

Hey! Exams can be absolutely horrible and also don't feel like a fair way to test your knowledge - they really only work for a small number of people. The good news is, if you are keen to go to university, there are options that mean you never have to do exams again! Obviously it depends on what subject you want to study, but, for example, most courses at Falmouth University where I go don't have any exams, and everything is assessed by coursework - which feels like you can really give it your best shot and it's much less stressful in my opinion. If you can stick it out for now and remember that this stress won't last forever, it's worth 'playing the game' even if we can agree that the system sucks, and you can look at options that might suit your learning style better for any future education

Unfortunately Ive just realised theyve caused me to go into an existential crisis for some reason 😂, I just hope I’ll have enough motivation to really try for the final exams, then try avoid them afterwards for the rest of my life haha

Maybe having a look into what courses you might want to study at uni or college/sixth form could help with motivation - see what grades you would need and if you're not far off, it could be the push you need! Exam season is tough though - if you're really struggling there are sites or maybe even counsellors at your school that you can reach out to, who would be able to help with your mental health if needed, or maybe even study motivation/making a plan of action that feels achievable!

Hi, firstly I would encourage you seek emotional support because what you are describing is being very overwhelmed which is not ideal if you are trying to map out how to move forward. I think finding alternative routes to study to suit your learning style blurting information on whiteboard or paper, teaching someone else.
