GCSE grades required for top unis

Hi, I’m looking for some advice.
I’m in Year 12 doing AS Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Psychology, and I’m aiming for AAAA this year. I’d really like to apply to top universities like Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL or KCL, but I’m worried my GCSEs aren’t strong enough compared to other applicants (especially for medicine).
My GCSEs were: 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8 (with 9s in Chemistry and RS).
My school’s average GCSE score was around 56 points, and I got about 66 across my best 8 subjects.
Do you think it’s still worth applying to places like Oxford or Imperial with these GCSEs? And how much do GCSEs actually impact applications for these universities?
Any advice would be really appreciated!

For Medicine, 'which Uni' is meaningless. All Med courses are accredited as 'equal' by the GMC, all follow the same set syllabus, all lead to exactly the same qualification and professional status. And - the 4 Unis you have mentioned are ludicrously competitive, not because they are 'better' (they aren't) but because the supposed 'glamour' means that they get deluged with applications and can therefore be very picky about who they interview.

Unis will look at your whole application, not just your GCSEs. Your A levels and UKCAT test score will always matter far more that your overall GCSE profile. Focus on those. Go to Uni Open Days at a range of different Unis in May/June and work out where you will feel happiest for 5 years.
