I don't know what to take for A-levels...

At the moment, I'm in year 11 doing Geography, French, Drama, Music, Maths, English language and literature, bio, chem, and physics. I get pretty good grades, but I have no idea what I want to be in life, and we are being made to choose our A-levels soon. I would like to do Psychology, Drama and Biology, but I don't think that will get me anywhere and I don't want to be stuck in between subjects. Chem was an option but I really don't want to go into medicine and I find chemistry rather difficult on it's own.

do the subjects you enjoy and hopefully everything will fall into place, its better to do subjects you actually like rather than the ones you hate, after all, you have to do this for 2 YEARS!

Hi @user022360 👋

I'm currently studying Biochemistry at the University of Essex, so I've been through the A level choosing and it can be quite stressful.

I also didn't know what I wanted to do later in life, so I chose subjects that I enjoyed and knew I wanted to get a deeper understanding of. As the important thing is picking subjects you'll enjoy as A levels can get quite busy and there can be a lot of content so it's much easier when your interested in the subject your being taught 😀

It's great that you already have ideas about what you want to take, and I think it's good that your thinking about the future! Which, yes is a good thing to think about when picking A levels and research is good but like I said before as long as you enjoy what your doing that's the main thing!

So, Psychology and biology go very well together, and then you have drama which is something different so I actually think if that's what you want to do then go for it 😀

Psych and Biology are allied subjects that would leave many degree subjects and potential careers open to you - everything from a wide range of healthcare courses to Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, Zoology, Ecology, Conservation etc etc. And Drama is both a fun/interesting subject that gives you 'cultural depth' but could also lead to many different career areas - performance, stage management, TV/film production, event management, theatre admin etc, etc. And there are also many degree subjects with no specific required A level subjects, like Law.

Chemistry does not just lead you into Medicine. With two core sciences, Bio and Chemistry, there are literally hundreds of degrees and career opportunities. It might be worth you looking at some of the degree subject available at just these two Unis and the required A level subjects.
