What do I put in my architecture portfolio if I don’t take art?

I’m a GCSE student and I currently don’t take which means I will not be taking it for a level and I am going to do DT a level instead. Whenever I see older pupils (who are going to study architecture) portfolios they take art and the portfolio’s are painting and drawings and are just their a level art projects.

Because I didn’t take art gcse I have lowkey lost my art ability and am not as good anymore. What do I put in my portfolio if I take DT and don’t have time to do art projects at home?

Hi there,

I'm Charlotte, a third year GD student here at Norwich Uni Arts.

I was in a similar situation when I was applying to uni - I chose Graphic Design but my a-levels were in German, Photography and Product Design (DT).

I personally contacted the course that I wanted to apply to here, and asked them for some advice. I submitted a portfolio of photography work and DT technical drawings/ design process. That was fine for me, however I had applied to Year 0 personally (the foundation year). So I'd highly recommend getting in touch with the uni you'd like to apply to. If we happen to be one of them, I could forward over a contact detail?

Best of luck in applications!

Consider taking a year to complete an art & design foundation diploma (FAD) at a local college following A levels. Have a look at the following thread for details:

Then read the following thread with advice from an architecture lecturer:
