Pre-registration MSc Occupational Therapy Finance

Hello, I am looking at completing the MSc (Pre-Registration) Occupational Therapy (2-year) programme at Plymouth starting September 2026. I already hold a BA degree, an MA degree, and a PhD. I understand that I will be entitled to a tuition and maintenance loan still as this is an exemption course, but as this course is 45 weeks long per year, will I also be entitled to the long course loan? Available information online says this is only for undergraduate programmes, so I am unsure. Also how much is this likely to be for someone living independently (I live with my wife and children) as opposed to with parents?

Hi Kirsty,

Our system awards the Long Course Loan automatically: you can get this because your course attracts undergraduate funding (even though it's a Postgraduate Healthcare course). We don't have the figures for 26/27, you can try asking us in a few months if you want.

So, if you're entitled to this when you apply next year we'll award it to you, rest assured.

Thanks, Graeme

Thanks Graeme,

Could you tell me the figures from this year just so I can plan ahead with an approximate number? I tried to look but wasn’t sure whether it would be in the category of living with parents, or living away from home as I am in my 30s and very much independent of my parents and live with my own family!

Hi Kirsty,

If you live with your own family then it would be your 'own home' or 'elsewhere' you'd indicate.

As the figure would depend also on your course length (if this is outwith the 30 weeks and 3 days of a regular course), you'd be best to check here:

https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-calculator

This would give you an estimated figure. Remember you wouldn't include your own income in the 'household income'.

Thanks, Jason
