Grades

My degree is weighted 33/67 2nd and 3rd year. I have a 2:2 in my first year because it wasn't weighted and I didn't care to try, and a high 2:1 in my 2nd year, can I put down "predicted first" on my resume, as this is very possible even if I scrape a first this year

Hi there,

It sounds like you're doing a really good job on your course this year so far, so keep it up!

I would recommend to cover your back, to say 'predicted 2:1 - 1st'. A 2:1 is what the majority of UK graduate schemes ask for.

And just remember that a resume/CV is more about what you have personally learnt and the unique skills and experiences you can bring. These can be from your course, extra-curriculars, internships/placements/projects you've worked on. Employers will look at far more than just your grades 🙂

I hope this helps and best of luck with your next steps!

Hey @Krish0130,

As mentioned above, it would be good to cover all eventualities by putting 'predicted a 2:1 - 1st'. Alternatively, you could say something along the lines of 'aiming for a 1st' or 'expecting a 1st'.

If you've achieved a high 2:1 in your second year and your first year isn't weighted, you definitely should be able to achieve a first overall with a strong performance this year - however, you don't want to find yourself in a situation where employers are requesting transcripts that you don't currently back up your true ability. Although it's unlikely they will request transcripts at this stage, it's important to be as honest as you can when applying for grad schemes/postgrad courses.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your final year!

Hi there,

Similar to above, I recommend putting something like "year 2 grade - 2:1, expected degree outcome - 1st class". That shows that you finished second year with a 2:1, but are working towards a first this year.

I think as well it depends what it would be for - for adding to your CV it would be fine, but if you're asking so you can apply for a postgraduate course or graduate scheme, I would wait until your grades for this semester have been added onto your transcript (if possible!) so it would be on your transcript what your up to date grades for third year are - hope that makes sense?

Good luck for your final year!

Hiya!

Just echoing what others have said, there’s been some really great advice. Some graduate schemes or postgraduate study options may ask for your academic transcript so far, so it’s sensible to be cautious and state an expected 2:1 (or First/2:1 if the form allows you to list both). This is especially as you achieved a 2:2 in your first year; while it may not count towards your final degree classification, external reviewers may still consider it when looking at your academic progress and overall performance.

As others have mentioned, a 2:1 is still an excellent grade, and you should feel confident and happy applying with this.

Keep up the great work as it sounds like you’re on the right track! What are you studying?
