Switching from Adult Nursing to Applied Biomedical Science

Hello.
I am a 2nd year nursing student and I feel I have made a mistake and that this course is not for me. Even though I enjoy most aspects so far, I lack the motivation when on placement and feel more comfortable when studying and doing the theoretical parts. Of course I still want to be able to help people and be part of the community I just feel I would be better off working towards my full potential in a different environment. I have always loved and enjoyed Biology as a subject, I have a higher human biology certificate and the idea of working in a laboratory and maybe even specializing in blood transfusions just excites me so much.
Should I try and complete 2nd year to obtain the HND and then apply for Biomedical Science of will it be too challenging since I am not motivated to complete the placements.
Also would it be possible for me to access 2nd year of a Biomedical degree if I have completed 2 years of Nursing?

Any insight will be much appreciated.

Thank you!

You need to contact unis you are interested in to see if they would accept you for second year for biomed - it's unlikely but you can ask.

Have you thought about how you would fund a new course? SFE calculates entitlement for a new course as:

Length of new course + 1 - years of previous study

You have two years of previous study (even if you don't complete 2nd year). So for a new 3-year degree the calculation would be:

3 +1 - 2 = 2 years of funding.

This means that you would need to pay the tuition fee for your first year of the new course.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.
As I am based in Scotland, I think the funding system is slightly different here.
However I will contact the unis and ask them about direct entry.
Have a good day

SAAS funding is different but they still take previous study into account when calculating eligibility for a new course so do seek advice on this.
