I don’t think I want to do a levels anymore

Im a dancer and I convinced myself to do a levels because im very academic and i thought it would be a good back up plan for me. But i just feel like im in the wrong place but i dont want to give up on my a levels when i know i can do them. I just hate everything about them and have no time for dance. Do I drop out? And do something else?

Bio, chem and English lit. I wanted to to do bio chem or English degree. That was my whole thought process “how would u get paid for dancing?” Which is why I wanted a backup plan because it’s a very competitive industry. But I’m a very good dancer and I feel like my potential is just wasting away. I love my a level subjects but I just feel like performing is meant for me. But then at the same time It would be very useful to have a backup plan, plus I’m academically capable to do my a levels. It’s just I’ve realised in these first few months that I don’t have time to balance both.

Doing the A levels don't commit you to doing a degree.

Do you love children? Do you have any experience working with them?

Hey @Emilia Brown,

Unless you have a clear plan for your dancing career (e.g. if you dropped out of your A-Levels right now, you would immediately start training/enroll full-time in a dance school), I would recommend either trying to complete your A-Levels/a Level 3 alternative. Whilst A-Levels admittedly aren't right for everyone, it is compulsory in England to be in some form of education or training until 18; have you looked into any alternative qualifications (e.g. BTECs/apprenticeships) that could offer you a route to university if you decide to pursue a degree at a later point? What does the pathway to a professional dancing career look like in terms of training/qualifications?

As mentioned above, you don't need to do a degree if you do complete your A-Levels; you could always take a few years out to pursue dance professionally at that point. 🙃

Hope this helps,
Eve (Kingston Rep).
