Current address and SFE status

Hi, I’m hoping to get some guidance regarding my Uni application and SFE status.

I received my PSS documents back in 2022, but since then I’ve been going back and forth between the UK and my original home country due to mine and my mother's health. She passed away last year, and I’ve had to manage some family matters, the house, and my own mental health, so my living situation hasn’t been stable or continuous in one place. I'm currently a EU worker with PSS, looking forward to coming back stably to the UK to work and study.

I’m worried about whether this affects my eligibility for home fee status. Could you advise me on whether my current working/address situation has any impact on my status? And how I should proceed?

Thank you so much

Hi there,

When would your course start and would you just be applying for the Tuition Fee Loan only? How long have you been living back in the UK and is it England you have been living in? Would you have evidence that shows when you have not been living in the UK that it was on a temporary basis?

Thanks, Drew

Hi,
The course would start in September 2026. I've been living in England Sept 2019-Jan 2020, then moved out because of covid and came back in Jan 2022 until May and in 2023 from Jan/Feb to May. I've been there too in 2024 and 2025, but not for working or studying. Providing evidence might be hard, I think the best I can do is get a therapist to write a letter testifying that I needed assistance during the time I've spent outside of the UK. I'd like to apply for both the Tuition Fee Loan and the Maintenance Loan.

Thank you

Hi there. If your 3 years residency was in the UK or EEA, then you can still apply for a loan. To apply for the Maintenance Loan, you would be applying as a Migrant Worker, which means if you have PSS, then you have to be working throughout your studies in order qualify for the Maintenance Loan. You must be living in the UK by 01/09/2026, if your course starts in September 2026. Thanks, Leah.
