Extra a level gap year

I’m currently a first year doing mechanical engineering at the university of Greenwich. I originally wanted to go to Queen marys but I needed a level maths and physics or chemistry, I only did maths. So I went to Greenwich as they accepted me with no physics/chemistry. Now I feel like I should have gone queen marys and I am contemplating doing a gap year where I do either a level physics or chemistry(probably physics as it applies more to mechanical engineering). I don’t think queen Mary will allow me to transfer in second year so that doesn’t seem to be an option. Any advice on if this is realistically doable please😭🙏

I don't know what the job market is like for mech eng but things to consider:

1.

You would waste 1 year of tuition and maintenance grant that you need to pay back later

2.

Is a diploma from Queen Mary really worth it compared to one from Greenwich? Make a list of the actual advantages because to me they sound the same.

3.

How are you going to support yourself during the gap year/pay to sit exams.

4.

You will probs need to redo first year etc, is it really worth it ?

5.

Would it not be more beneficial to spend the time and energy you would in doing physics a level to do a year in industry/master or something that gives you actual experience and a valuable plus. When you get into Queen Mary, no one will know when you did your a levels and how and no one will care.

If I were you I'd just stick with my course till the end. + Queen Mary is competitive you don't have any guarantee you'll get in. Why give up what you are sure you have for something uncertain that requires extra effort?
