Which one should I consider for forensic psychology? John moores or Manchester Met

Hi there,

I'd definitely recommend LJMU's BSc (Hons) Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice programme!

The course is accredited by the British Psychology Society which is great for career aspects. It allows you to become a member of the BPS when you graduate, which is important if you want a career in psychology as it is the first step to becoming a Chartered Psychologist.

The course also has so many module choices so you can tailor the degree to what interests you the most! Modules include topics such as:

Criminological Theory, Biological and Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Rehabilitation and Desistance, Penology, Victimology, Forensic and Investigative Psychology, Youth Justice, Substance Use, Violence and Society, Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychopharmacology and more!

LJMU itself is a great place to study, and I've found that they're supportive both pastorally and academically - the amount of support services they offer is amazing. From mental health and counselling services to student hardship schemes to academic success workshops, they have you covered for everything. I've loved my time here so much I chose to stay for postgrad

Our open days for this year have finished, but you can check out a virtual tour of our campuses using this link: https://360tour.ljmu.ac.uk/?s=pano12?s=pano10

For Forensic Psych, the majority of classes will be held at either the Redmonds building or the John Foster building at our Mount Pleasant campus - depending on what modules you pick in third year, you could also have classes on Byrom Street at our City Campus

I hope this was a helpful insight! If you want any more information about student life at LJMU, you can contact us (current students) through this link: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-students/chat-to-a-student

You can also contact our course enquiries team via [email protected] for any further information about the course.

Thanks!

Hi @Spidersloth34

Great to hear you're considering Manchester Met for our BSc (Hons) Forensic Psychology course.

This course has previously had BPS accreditation and is currently awaiting reaccreditation, hopefully soon. As there has been a curriculum re-write, we have had to reapply for BPS accreditation, but we believe we will be reaccredited as we will be teaching the same core curriculum.

Assessment on the course is 100% coursework, in the form of essays, reports, case studies, and individual and group presentations.

As this is a specialist psychology route, there are no option modules available on this course, as you will focus on a number of specialist topics within forensic psychology as a series of core modules - you can view these on the course webpage.

There is the opportunity to do an optional placement year between your second and final year. There is also an optional final year unit where students complete a short one day per week placement. These placements tend to be in a variety of settings and organisations. Instead of a placement year, students can choose to study abroad at one of our partner universities in Spain, Italy, Sweden, Malaysia, USA, Canada or Australia.

We do have an undergraduate psychology student on our Student Ambassador Chat Platform. They are available to answer any questions you may have about studying psychology at Manchester Met, as well as what it's like studying in Manchester. You can also take a look at the digital content that our student ambassadors have posted about life as a student in Manchester and studying at Manchester Met.

If you decide to apply and receive an offer, you will be invited to an Applicant Visit Day in the Spring term. They take a similar format the the open day and you'll be able to attend a forensic psychology taster sessions, tour the campus and accommodation, chat with course tutors and current students. Coming to the Visit Day will definitely help you in making a decision whether Manchester Met is right for you.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact our Course Enquiries team at [email protected] or on 0161 247 6969.

Hi there😊

I think some key things to consider when choosing which uni to study at are:

Will you be living on campus or commuting?

What costs would you face for living or commuting (public transport, driving your own car, walking, etc.)?

Which city can you see yourself living in most comfortably?

Do you already have connections in either city and want to be closer to them?

Perhaps it might be worth visiting the unis again or having a day out in each city?

I hope these few tips offer some help in decided!
