I'm in Y13 doing Spanish, English Lang, Classics & Irish. It's going well enough so far, sometimes my motivation wanes but it being near enough to exams, stress is a good motivator lol

Wow! That’s amazing to hear. Do you have any tips on how to structure a day? & roughly how many hours do you study a day?
If you don’t mind me asking, were you homeschooled during high school too? Thank you

I have no real tips for structuring a day. I did Y12 with the method of "at least 1hr studying for a subject every day" and have Saturdays the day off, I now do 6-9 hours of studying daily because I'm in Y13. I've been homeschooled since the age of 9, lol.

I have a GYG here where I track my studying & progress, if you're interested, it might give you more background as to what I do

Thank you so much for your replies, they mean a lot! And, thank you for sharing your GYG - I’ll definitely be following along haha.

If possible, could you answer two of my questions?
1. Do you have to stay in contact with the local authority once you’re in year 12/13 but home educating?
2. If you do, then do you also have to provide proof of the work you complete?

Thank you SO much once again.
Honestly, can’t thank you enough!! 🙏

I'm in the Republic of Ireland, so I'm not sure if the rules are different for you, but from the age of 16 and onwards, you're not on the homeschool register here. So I've not had to be in contact with anybody since I turned 16

Ahhh!!! I've been waiting for someone to ask. I study Biology, Chemistry and English Literature. It is going well so far, a little delay on the English Lit mainly because of getting my hands on the books however content for the sciences are quite accessible on the internet. Are you self studying too?

Yeah. I am teaching A Levels on my own. I originally decided to study 5 A Levels but after looking at the requirements for medical schools (Oxford and Cambridge applicants must have Chemistry), I dropped two of my choices. The A Levels I am teaching myself is: Mathematics (Edexcel), Further Mathematics (Edexcel) and Chemistry (AQA).
Just started to teach my self this week (I left college this week). Maths and Further Maths are going well but I am bit struggling with Chemistry.
Do you mind sharing any tips?

Hi, sorry I might be wrong but I thought that most unis don't count further maths as a seperate a level to normal maths as it's too similar? Have you looked into this and will this affect your application?

It is a standalone A Level subject, and most universities expect applicants to STEM undergraduate courses to have taken it. Yes, you're correct. Maths and Further Maths are related, but Further Maths covers more advanced topics that go beyond the standard Maths curriculum.

Yess! I’m self-studying for my a levels
It does get a bit hard and boring at times, but overall I’m enjoying my experience. When did you start self-studying? & what ‘year’ are you in?
I’m studying Biology, Chemistry & Maths!!
So exciting to hear that someone else is also self studying haha.

I’m doing AQA for Biology & Chem and then Edexcel for Maths! And, yes I’m aiming towards getting into medical school
Currently I’ve not decided what unis I want to go to, but I’m thinking about Imperial, Manchester, Sheffield and possibly Oxbridge if my UCAT is high enough )

Are you also applying to med schools? & how are you finding self-studying so far?
I’ve been finding the motivation / discipline part a bit hard lately, but I really enjoy doing things at my own pace, and this way I have time to do other activities too! What universities are you thinking to apply to?
Also, have you checked out the practical endorsement part of the science a levels? They’re really expensive, but I emailed loads of unis and I asked them if they require private candidates to have passed the practical endorsement and loads of the unis said they don’t (including imperial & KCL), but some specific colleges at Cambridge (I’m leaning towards applying to camb) require it, but others don’t! I wish someone had told me this, so that’s why I wanted to share this with you in case it’s useful

Btw, how does your typical day look like for self-studying?
