oxford vs cambridge medicine

I know everyone says that they aren’t the best if you want to be a practicing doctor, but I’m not sure if I want to 100% be a doctor / a researcher, although I sort of do want to be a doctor, I’m also considering something in neuroscience. It’s pretty known that you have clinical experience later than other universities, but I’ve tried looking, and saw that some start their clinical years a year earlier? In addition, most universities do PBL, and I’m not sure if I’m cut out for that sort of independent learning. If anyone reading this has gone to Oxbridge for med / STEM, how often do you write essays? Since I’m not really sure if I’m cut out for that. Lastly, why does everyone unanimously agree Cambridge is better than Oxford for med? Would I be considered as a strong applicant with 9999999986 in my GCSEs?? My grade 6 in english language haunts me… The 8 is in Textiles, and I have a 9 in further maths. I also do maths, bio, chem for a level - do most oxbridge applicants do 4?

My eldest daughter went to Cambridge for medicine, I don't think it affected her starting clinical later. There is no advantage going to Cambridge for medicine as there may be for other subjects but if you like the course go for it.

Thank you for your response, would you mind telling me her stats which she used to get in? I.e. grades, supercurriculars, etc.

It was a few years ago so she has 9 A*2A gcses and 5 AS's at grade A all well over 90% ums. She dropped further maths at the beginning of y13 as she was worried Cambridge would ask for a grade in it. She got A*A*A* in Biology, Chemistry and Maths. Also did well in Bmat and UKCAT. She had very few supercurriculars eg gold at Chemistry /Biology olympiad, I think she had read a book called Aspirin which she made a lot of! Only had minimal work experience but managed offers at Nottingham and Cambridge (Downing). She has always been very laid back and was voted most ditsy at her college. She is now a gynaecologist.
