Cambridge Linguistics 2026 applicants

Hey everyone! Honestly it's so hard to get any information about linguistics admissions so I thought I'd make a post. Which college did you guys apply to and how are we feeling about the assessment tomorrow?
I applied to Murray Edwards!

very nervous tbh... I found it pretty okay overall but I was completely stumped at one part. Tried my best though, and I know the assessments are meant to challenge us, which made me feel better!!

It was so tricky! Applied to Caius and I hope I can compensate for my performance with the interview...

omgg for me it was completely different Part 1 took me forever and Part 2 was nice, maybe because I've been doing a lot of UKLO questions similar to it? But I lacked time in Part 3 and only could do half of the questions...I hope this assessment's not as important as the interview🥲

same here for part 1, it was so tedious. i kept zooming in & out and scrolling between pages to double check myself-- in the end it took me like 25-30 minutes and i still had to guess on multiple questions!

i got at least *something* down for all of the questions but i def sacrificed quality for quantity

Ahh section 2 was so tricky! Even worse, I didn’t see the last sentence on the next page so I spent ages trying to do the questions with not all the sentences provided, so I didn’t answer all of those. Section 1 completely stumped me, so I tried to leave it until the end, but I had no spare time anyway…

How are you all feeling about your interviews?

I managed to get a mock interview with a uni lecturer last week which calmed my nerves a lot. It seemed more of a discussion than an interrogation (which is what I felt it would be like!). Still mortified though! One of my interviewers specialises in something I talked briefly about in my PS so I'm a bit worried about that but it's nothing a bit more reading won't fix. Best of luck to you all, and make sure to treat yourself after your interviews! We've done all we can
