Applying in my second year of a masters degree

I am in the second year of a 2 year part time masters degree. I didn’t apply for student finance last year as I could afford to pay for the course in full so I got a 5% discount. However my financial situation has changed I spent most of my money buying a flat after my landlord wanted to sell the flat that I was renting. I would like to know if I can apply for a postgraduate masters loan in the second year of my course to help with living costs if I have already paid my tuition fees or is it just for people who are paying their fees in instalments. If so can I apply for the full amount or would I just receive half as I would receive half per year if I applied in the first year of my two year course.

Hi there,

If a student wants to apply in year 2, 3 or 4 of their course after not applying in year 1 they would need to apply on the application form for year 1.

Students can therefore apply for a Postgraduate Master's in any year of their course as long as they apply within 9 months of the first day of the final academic year of their course.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi

Thank you for your reply telling me how to apply for a loan. Please can you answer the second part of my question. Do you know if I apply in my second year will I only receive half of the max loan amount like if I applied in my first year I would receive half each year. Or could I receive the maximum amount £12,471 or £10,000 if I didn’t want the full amount?

Hi there,

You would still receive the full amount if you're looking to be assessed for this. You can choose a specific amount if you'd prefer. Thanks, Jason
