UCAT 2026 prep

Hi!

I’m an S5 Student who is studying for her Highers, and aspire to become a medical student. Ive decided it would be beneficial for me to start preparing for the UCAT now, as I want to do it quite early on in the summer, and I really want to do well in it to allow me to have a choice in what Universities I can go to (within Scotland).

I’m averaging around 1750 at the moment, and I’ve been stuck at this score for quite some time. I’m not sure how to improve on it, even though I’ve been trying to review my answers, I can’t exactly gain a strategy to always score well.

I’m trying to aim to get 2100+, and I’ve seen people manage it, so I’m sure it’s possible. But I don’t have anyone in medical school to speak to about this.

Does anyone who has sat their UCAT in the past have any advice for me? My current best sections are STJ and QR :frown:

Thank you so much!

If you really want to start this early on you are much better off doing practice questions rather than mocks. I personally only did 8 full mocks in total for my UCAT i sat in September. If you’re stuck on one score no matter how many mocks you’re doing, stop doing mocks and work on individual sections by doing timed practice. Also a note, starting really early does not always mean a good/better score, it’s not like a regular exam

Go back to doing untimed practise questions. and think of it just as puzzles for fun to begin with. Take the pressure off. You don't want to feel it at this stage. I did 6 weeks over the summer, but nothing before that and for last 3 weeks was doing a mock most days, but not on the days I was working, in the morning always at the same time as my test was booked for with a iced latte caffeinated 1 hour before. Then having a break and analysing it in the afternoons (2 hours). For first 3 weeks was doing mostly practise questions and mini mocks for sections. My worst was QR though and best decision making and VR. My score suddenly went up in the last week after staying very similar for a long time so don't worry yet - you want to peak at the right time. Good luck.

Just use medify. And then the official mock tests closer to the test date.

No, you really dont need to get medify or start practising at all until 6 weeks or so before your test date. I did about 5 weeks and 4 hours a day, on the days I wasn't working over the Summer holiday. It ruins ur Summer. Mock in the morning and then went through answers in the afternoon. I got awful scores at the beginning and only really improved significantly in the last couple of weeks so you do need to plug away at it. When I started never thought I would get any better.
