MSc (pre reg) loan rules - already have an MSc

Hello, I’ve been offered a place on an MSc Speech and language therapy (pre reg) course at Health Sciences University, Jan 2026 start, 2 year course.

As it’s an allied health profession pre reg course, it’s possible to apply for a second lot of undergraduate funding to do it (for both tuition and maintenance).

However, I already have both an unrelated BSc (funded through student loan) *and* an MSc (completely self funded). I know the BSc isn’t an issue, but I’m confused about whether the existing MSc is a problem.

I just want to double check that having an MSc already doesn’t make me ineligible for the tuition fee and maintenance loans for the speech and language course. Having trouble finding clear guidance on this online (with respect to already having an MSc). Could SFE let me know? Many thanks!

Hi there,

Based on what you have advised the course shows it should be one of our exception courses as its a pre registration course. This means we don't take into account previous study, as long as you're not already registered in this field. nothing is definite till you apply and the assessor can check this and confirm for definite.

You can apply now for this course using the 25/26 application. Applications can take 6-8 weeks to process once we have everything.

Thanks,
Claire
