Hi there 👋

It's great to hear that you're interested in applying for uni, which is quite exciting.

There are different things to consider when studying a course such as location, what you will study and career prospects.

If you're considering computer science at Teesside, here are some key reasons to choose the course:

British Computer Society (BCS) academic membership: get free BCS membership to accelerate your career path with CV builder tools, e-learning courses, mentorships programmes, jobs boards and volunteering opportunities.

Industry links: work on live industry briefs, competitions and hackathons with companies including Cisco, Cubic Transportation Systems, Sage, TUI, Atombank, HMRC and Waterstons.

State-of-the-art facilities: learn in industry-standard computing labs with specialist equipment used to undertake development projects and build innovative prototypes.

Career-ready: our ExpoSeries of events allow you to showcase your skills to industry professionals who are seeking to recruit new and rising talent.

Quality teaching: we are ranked 4th for Teaching Quality for Computer Science in the Sunday Times Good University Guide (114 institutions were ranked, tees.ac.uk/source).

This course is also offered at our Teesside University London campus. Please note, the structure, content and delivery model is different, visit tees.ac.uk/london for full details.

It is important to do your research and compare other universities too.

The choice is yours, let us know if you have any questions and good luck for the future.

Hi Abdul,

Most of the top Universities will have great Computer Science courses as it is in such high demand. Try to understand what you are looking for in your experience to help differentiate the unis and find what you want.

If you are after a small city with a stellar campus and more of a community feel then Lancaster might be a great option for you. But if you are after a larger city based university then maybe look towards unis in Manchester and London etc. Lancaster is a top-ten university (Complete Uni Guide) and has a beautiful campus, we are near the Lake district and Manchester so have access to lots of shops and nature!

I study Computer Science here and I am enjoying it so far. I chose the course here because it is a more practical based course, with less of a focus on theory-heavy topics and more opportunities to try out what you learn. Also, I liked the appeal of the unique 4-year Masters they do here which combines an integrated masters degree and a 10-week industry placement into your fourth year, giving you the best of both worlds.

Consider what type of experience you are after, if Lancaster sounds interesting to you I'd be happy to answer and questions!

Best Wishes,
Zak (Lancaster Computer Science Student)

It depends on what you want from your degree. If you want something practical and industry related, Southampton is highly rated and gets lots of funding. I heard St Andrews is good. Cambridge, Oxford etc are more mathematical so only apply if you want a more maths based computer science degree. Hope that helps
