dental hygiene with access course

with an access to he diploma are my chances good if i put all my effort into strengthening my application? or is it grim even with effort. i want to do an access to he course after sixth form (ill be 19 at the start of it) and i want to know if its even worth trying because of competition. i dont want to do an access course and put all my effort into my application and still not get a place. anyone else in my situation?

extra note: i dont want to do dental hygiene and therapy but just hygiene

Hello,

Most universities accept Access to HE courses. An access to HE hygiene course gives you the same admission opportunity as other students with other qualifications (e.g., BTEC and A-levels). Good results on your Access to HE course along with a good personal statement will work in your favour, you will not be 'looked down on' for taking an Access to HE route 🙂

All the best

Do a dental nurce apprenticeship, get paid for the two years. Then you can get in with only about half of an online access course.

Which unis accept half of an Access course?

Look at number of UCAS points for a dental nurce apprenticeship and how UCAC points work for access couses. Also contect individual universities, but they will not know what the policy will be in a few years time.

For example Essex universities says "A GDC recognised Dental Nursing qualification plus a minimum of two years experience from either pre-or post qualification employment plus A-level Biology grade C" (or equivalent)

The UK RAF/Navy/Army also pays well for dental nurses including while they are training you. Many of their dental nurses become dental practice managers etc.
