LSBU International student - BA (Hons) Media Production

Hi, my name is Ayesha, I’m an international student at London South Bank University studying BA (Hons) Media Production. Before moving to London for my education, I had so much anxiety about starting a new life in a different country. LSBU made the entire transition so smooth and easy for me. They supported me throughout my application, answering any questions I had not just about the university but even about living in London. They helped international students like me with everything from opening a bank account, setting up a student Oyster card to finding accommodation and settling comfortably into student halls. When I started my course, I instantly felt at ease because the lecturers and everyone at LSBU were so welcoming. They introduced us to our course structure and explained everything clearly. Everyone had lots of questions, and they answered each one with so much patience until we fully understood. That really helped me feel confident from day one.

One thing I love about Media Production at LSBU is how practical and hands-on it is. It’s honestly so fun that it doesn’t even feel like studying sometimes. We get real training using industry-standard cameras, lighting equipment, and advanced editing and post-production software. We’re encouraged to explore everything photography, videography, content creation, editing and the course teaches us how to produce meaningful work rather than just talk about it. There are also live project briefs and opportunities to pitch creative ideas, which makes the course feel very close to real industry practice. As the course progresses, if anything feels too difficult, I always feel comfortable reaching out to my tutors for a 1-to-1 session. They genuinely care and always help me work through anything I’m struggling with. Throughout the year, we also have guest lectures and events where industry professionals come in, which helps a lot with networking and understanding the real world of media. We are also taught modules that really prepare us for the professional world from understanding how audiences engage with content online to developing our own major creative project. By the end of the course, we build a strong portfolio of our own work, which is something employers really value. LSBU’s Employability Hub has played a huge role in shaping my confidence. They help with CV writing, cover letters, interview preparation, and even finding internships. Many of these opportunities can turn into full-time jobs. There’s also a strong entrepreneurial focus LSBU encourages students to chase their dreams. They even offer programmes where students can pitch their start-up ideas and receive financial support to bring them to life. That’s one of the reasons I’m now seriously considering starting my own creative business, something I never imagined myself doing before coming here. Being someone who struggles with anxiety, I wasn’t sure how I would manage university life. But my lecturers have always supported and accommodated me, allowing me to study in a way that feels manageable. I also received additional support from LSBU's mental health team, who are a confidential and incredibly kind resource for students going through tough times whether academic or personal. Their support has truly made a difference in my journey. Sometimes I think back to when I was so afraid of going to university. If I had known how much support, guidance, and care LSBU provides, I wouldn’t have worried at all. My journey here has been such a positive experience. It has shaped me into a more confident, ambitious, and capable person than I was when I first arrived. As I’m progressing towards the end of my degree, I feel more than ready for the professional world. In fact, I already feel like I’m part of it because of how well I’ve been trained. I’m applying for internships and jobs in my field with the help of the employability team, and I can see my future clearly now something I owe greatly to LSBU.

LSBU doesn’t just teach you; they support your growth, encourage your dreams, and guide you towards becoming the best version of yourself. And for me, that has made all the difference.
