University of Staffordshire (Stafford) Help!

Hi,

I’ve been offered a place for Adult Nursing at UOS (Stafford campus) and just wondered if any current students could give any help please!

I was just wondering if the Uni days are set days (I believe it’s up to 3 a week?) and if so, what are these days and are they the same every year for first year students?

Trying to sort out childcare so I have nursery booked for definite set days and then a childminder who can be more flexible with any other days during placement.

TIA ☺️

Hi Tia,

First of all, congratulations on your offer for Adult Nursing - that’s brilliant news. We checked in with our Course Director to make sure you have the most accurate information.

We completely understand how important it is to plan childcare around university study and placements. Your full timetable will be available at the start of the course. This will include reading weeks, university-based teaching weeks and practice placement weeks. Placement allocations are discussed during Welcome Week.

In your first year, you’ll normally have a block of teaching and mandatory skills training before your first placement. Most students start their first placement in November. Each week of the course (whether it’s theory or practice) meets the required 37.5 hours to support Nursing and Midwifery Council registration. This means the pattern can vary depending on the module.

It’s also worth checking that you’ve applied for the childcare element of Student Finance, as this can support with costs. For placements, you should expect nights, 12-hour shifts and some weekends. Partner trusts usually release shift patterns around a month before placements begin.

I hope this helps you plan ahead. If you need anything else, please let us know - we’re happy to help 🙂

Hi,

I am in first year currently. Days aren't set, they do vary but you do get the timetable well in advance to be able to sort childcare. It is generally 3 days a week, sometimes 1 of them is online on teams.
First placement also starts from 15th January.

Hope this helps 🙂
