LSE Economics and Economic History Personal Statement

I'm curious if anyone else is running into this issue. I am currently working on my PS for Economics and Economic History at LSE and I am trying to get this spot on and to the highest level I can as my Grades are AAA in Economics, Maths and Physics (Just the standard offer).

But I have ran into the issue that this statement is going to be so aligned to Economics and Economic History that I will have difficulty applying for other courses I am interested at in other universities. For example Economics and Data analytics at Manchester, Or just Pure Economics at other unis but also a PWC flying starts degree apprenticeship done through UCAS.

My first question is, is there anyway to apply for seperate choices direct rather than through UCAS?

And my 2nd question is, if my first question is not true what would you recommend my next step be?

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Hi, Im applying for the same course as well! You have to submit all your choices through UCAS, so I would recommend having them well aligned so its easier to write a ps. Also for LSE, you need to write your statement for their course - not doing so is basicslly a guaranteed rejection. You could apply to data science/straight econ courses at unis which dont care so mucg about the personal statement (e.g. Bristol) if you really want to though. Why not straight econ at lse if that seems more where your interests lie?

I would have applied for straight Econ but unfortuntely I didn't do further maths or get an A* in maths so I think thats off the table. Thanks for the advice though and best of luck with you application. Any tips for writing your PS when it comes to this course?

Hi! I've just applied to Economics and Economic History too and for the same reason (lack of further maths). I wrote a good amount about history in my personal statement (I hope enough 🤞) and have received offers for pure Econ from Nottingham, Manchester, and Birmingham. I don't think writing about economic history will put unis off, especially since LSE is a bit of an outlier in caring so much about personal statements. Also, have you had a proper look at the course at LSE? I only ask because the course will be 50% of each, and so even if you really want the Econ from LSE, you've got to make sure you're also up for spending half of your time on history

Thats not exactly true, An overwhelming majority of the modules in Economics and Economic History are the same as the regular pure BSC economics. The main difference is the final year where you are forced to pick courses from the economic history dept, and have to write your thesis on it. the first 2 years are actually quite similar to the regular pure BSC econ

Hey I have this same issue, my personal statement is 70% economics and 30% somewhat economic history. Any advice?

hey! I applied for economic history I would say mine was 50% for economic and history. I would say since economic economic history mostly priorities economic I think you are fine. just show off your skills and your ambition for why you want to study this course
