Second degree

Hi, would be great if you could help

I have a 2:1 undergraduate degree in accounting and finance that I got in 2025

I really want to pursue nursing though at the university of Huddersfield, as I did my first degree here

I already have A-levels in biology, chemistry and psychology

but the a-level grades I got are below the grades that a lot of universities are asking for nursing

I know I could pursue a masters in nursing but there is the portfolio and work experience element of this which is an option but

my question is, if I pursued the undergraduate degree in nursing as a second degree, would I be funded for this, so the full tuition fee loan and maintenance loan based on household income, and can I apply for this through clearing

alternatively if I didn't get into the undergraduate degree for nursing, could I be funded for the Health Foundation Pathway leading to a BSc(Hons) Degree, which after passing, includes access into nursing, and could I be funded for all 4 years, so the full tuition fee loan and maintenance loan based on household income

do you know of any quicker ways I could become a qualified nurse?

thankyou

I have copied the thread you made in Ask SFE and moved it to the Nursing and midwifery forum, as you were asking a lot of questions that the SFE reps won't be able to answer. I also edited the thread left in the Ask SFE forum to just be about funding - you should get a reply during office hours.

Is there a reason you are not applying for nursing courses now and waiting for clearing? To get the best chance of an offer, you need to apply by the January 2026 deadline. In terms of entry requirements, you need to contact admissions at Huddersfield and ask if the A level grade requirements still apply if you have a degree. There is often flexibility for mature students. You can also consider a pre-registration masters course. This is a condensed 2-year version of the 3-year undergraduate course. When you graduate from either the undergraduate or pre-reg masters course, you will be qualified to apply for band 5 positions in the NHS.

SFE will confirm this - you should be eligible for both the tuition fee loan and maintenance loan for a nursing course as a second degree. Pre-reg masters courses also attract undergraduate funding.
