independent ucas application 2026

I am currently applying for university as a retake independent student.

I am retaking Biology and Maths . Whilst sitting english literature for the first time.

I have enlisted my current English to act as my referee as I have decided to learn English literature in one year and take the exam this year while my previous six form acts as my exam Centre.

This process can be so confusing I am unsure what to advise my English on what to write. I am also unsure what they will ask her in terms of predicted grades. Is she able to input the predictive grades for me? Is there a section for to do that or does she need to include that in the reference? Furthermore if she is unable to input this where would I be able to input it as I’m just sitting my exams as an external student so my previous sixth form will not be able to provide predicted grades.

Any help?

When UCAS emails your reference, they'll see that the reference is broken up into pretty self-explanatory sections, plus there will be guidance included to help your reference write it, so don't you worry about that. And yes, predicted grades are solely the reference's responsibility, and she will be able to include them as part of her reference.

Good luck with your A-levels and applying to uni
