Pelican Programme 2026 - Law Advice

Hi! I’m interested in studying either Law or Land Economy at Cambridge and the Pelican Programme for Law was recommended to me, run by Corpus Christi College.

I have contacted the outreach team and, because I am only eligible for the programme on the basis of my ethnic minority heritage, I was basically told that I had very little chance of getting in as Law is such an oversubscribed subject. I felt quite confident with the essay I have written based on the task.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice about applying despite knowing this. The outreach officer recommended the Geography course instead, but I don’t take A-level Geography and suspect I may be at a disadvantage.
Thanks!

Recommending geography seems odd under the circumstances but you don’t have anything to lose by applying to the Pelican program, albeit your chances of success may be low.

Are you aware of the residential Cambridge Exploring Law Conference which is run by the law faculty? The application window is open now until 31 Dec and you can find all of the details at:

Good Luck!

Seems like a long shot, particularly when the published entry requirements state that “The majority of these students took Geography (99%).” but the OP doesn’t study A level geography.

Thank you very much. I will apply for the Law course despite the low acceptance rates and will look into the Exploring Law Conference, too.

I'm going to apply too, and I'm in practically the same circumstances as you, hopefully we both get in! I wanted to ask, how many words was your response, and you know how the teachers had to refer us, do you know what your teacher said at all or write them something to say, or just let them freestyle?

I think we hear back next Friday

Last year found out on 15th Jan on Friday, which for us is the equivalent of next week on the 16th, so I assume it’s then

But no I haven’t heard back either

Do we know how much they take into consideration our references/personal statement vs our contextual circumstances?
(Also haven't heard back)

Hi! My answer was 743 words long, so just under the limit. I have no idea about the structure of the reference the Law tutor at my school gave, but I’ll let you know what the result is. Good luck!

nor I lol
they take into consideration WP criteria quite strongly, they do look at grades but it’s contextualised so if you go to a worse performing school your grades are viewed slightly more favourably, but grades aren’t really a determining factor as much as the PS and WP criteria as everyone has good grades (this is just from what I’ve heard) GCSEs are also more heavily weighted than A level predicted I think
