will my gsce grades hold me back when i apply to uni

I got 8,8,8,7,7,6,6,6,6,4 (4 in drama and 6s in maths and triple science) (i was also one mark off a 7 in maths, screw you edexcel grade boundaries)

I'm considering doing either history or politics at uni and I got an 8 in history.

I reckon that with enough work I could get the top grades in my a-levels but would my GCSEs hold me back from getting into the top unis???

Apart from places like LSE, neither of these subjects are especially competitive and most Unis put a very small weighting on GCSEs, or only count the top 5 or top 8 etc. Far more emphasis is put on your A level grades and Personal Statement.
