Does anyone do/plan on doing Prosthetics and Orthotics at Strathclyde?

I'd like to know if you get a uniform?

Also I heard they do clinical placements in 3rd and 4th year, does anyone have more info on what thats like?

Or could anyone let me know what the recommended reading is for some classes?

Thank you so much!

Hey Anon! Sorry you've not had any replies to this yet - I'll do my best to answer some of your questions! 😀

Yes, students will have uniforms for wearing in clinical settings both on campus and on placement 🙂

Clinical placements are based in hospitals or sometimes private companies (lots of opportunities of locations across the UK for these and students may work elsewhere outside of Glasgow). The placements are a significant part of years 3 and 4 and you'll undertake them in both Prosthetics and Orthotics. There's a video on the course page which gives you a bit of a flavour for placements (you hear student experience there). Will link to the course page here - the video is at the top on the right hand side! The video also shows you the NHS uniforms the students wear.

Placements are really the opportunity for you to put all of your learning in to practice - through your ability to design and manufacture prosthetics and orthotics to suit your patient while also through building your confidence in working with patients on a human level 🤗

We have a student testimonial which you might find helpful too. Zainab's answers to some questions about the course are here!

I don't have the reading lists available sorry, but you can maybe drop [email protected] an email and this is something they might be able to help with! 🤗

Hope some of this is helpful but please do let me know if you've any other questions.
