Confused student

Heya so I’m in yr 10 and im curious about how I can improve my chances of being an architect.
For GCSEs im taking:
Art
History
Spanish
Science(double)
Math
English(lit and lang)
And I was wondering if there is anything I can do such as extra curriculars , hobbies or jobs I can take up. Currently I’m volunteering at an art gallery and I was unable to get on for dofe.

Hi!
I'm a Y10 too. I must say, I'm kinda useless here, but I really have no idea- honestly you can't really have architecture-specific extra curriculars at this stage, however, anything that would look good on an application. volunteering roles, leadership roles, and just getting good grades in general. Kinda difficult to get jobs and stuff at this age, but the art gallery is a good one!

Best of luck

The best thing you can do at this stage (and in general, IMO) is read! Pick up some books on architecture, watch some lectures on YouTube, whatever. Will give you a taste of what studying the subject at university will be like while simultaneously building (ha) up your own knowledge. You'll get to uni well informed and miles ahead of your peers, which is utterly essential in a competitive field such as architecture.

Really the best things you can doing are focusing on getting good grades, making or finding resources that work for you for year 11 (youll really thank yourself if you do this!) and focusing on your drawing as much as possible

Hi @Miniru124

It's great to see your already focused on your career goals! 😊

As another commentor has stated, the best thing you can do right now is focus on getting good grades.

Secondary to grades, you may want to begin looking into the pathways to be an architect. Maybe look at degrees you may be interested in, this way you can see the A-levels and grades they require which gives you something to work towards.

Aside from this, maybe contact local architecture businesses and ask about the pathway to get to a similar position. This could be as simple as an email, or popping your head in to their establishment and asking. This way you are getting opinions from someone with first-hand experience.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Central Lancashire)
