I REALLY want to change biology to geography a level

I’m in Year 12 and it’s mid-November, and I’m seriously thinking about switching Biology to Geography.
My current subjects are Biology, Chemistry, and Economics. Chemistry and Economics are okay, but I’ve always disliked Biology.

I also don’t feel comfortable in my Biology class. I’m shy, I have no close friends there, and the girls who came from my secondary school already have their own group. They’re not mean, but I feel awkward and out of place. Combined with how much I dislike the content, I don’t think Biology is right for me.

The only reason I originally chose Biology and Chemistry was because I felt pressure to “keep my options open” and some friends said I was smart enough to do them. My first choices before that were Law, Economics and Sociology.

Recently, in Economics lessons, I realised how much Geography overlaps with it and how much I miss studying Geography. I enjoyed it at GCSE and got a grade 9, but I never considered taking it for A-level until now. I know A-level Geography will be harder, but I think I’d enjoy it a lot more than Biology.

I am worried about switching this late because:
I’ll need to catch up
People in the Geography class already know each other
I’m shy and find it hard to talk to new people
I’m scared about the NEA and field trips because I don’t want to be alone
None of my friends take Geography

I also feel embarrassed because I asked my tutor in October about if I can change one of my subjects, but he asked me why I haven’t been showing up to form so I never answered as I ahve no good excuse🙂🙂🙂. Now I don’t know how to approach him again without feeling stupid as he will might be angry as to why I didn’t come earlier.

I’m scared that switching this late will make me fall behind, but I’m also scared that if I stay in Biology, I’ll hate every second of it. I don’t want to fail my A-levels, and I’m stressed because I don’t yet know what I want to do at university.

Overall, I want to switch to A-level Geography, but I’m worried it might be too late and that I’ll be stuck with Biology.

A Level biology is notoriously difficult/known to be one of the most difficult A level subjects. This isn't GCSEs. These are the only 3 subjects you are going to be doing for 2 years, and if you don't like it now, you won't like it later, and you sure as hell won't like it when you have a 120 mark test paper coming up. It's still more or less early enough for you to switch, and all I can see are reasons for why you should. Don't feel embarrassed, apologise to your form teacher, be honest and say you have no excuse, and ask him the question. He's not there to get angry at you or chastise you, he's there to get you through these two years and guide you. You will get to know new people through group activities, and I imagine that the fieldwork will also include that. To catch up, you simply have to focus. You already do plenty of self study by yourself, I'm sure you can catch up if you put your mind to it. REMEMBER, you can't afford to hate a subject here! Even if you have to catch up, you will probably end up doing better in geography than you would in biology

Speak to your form tutor/school about switching.
It may be too late to switch now. But you dont know unless you try.
